Parents are celebrating after the Department for Education formally backed plans for a mixed, non-denominational free school in East Finchley.

The Archer Academy’s chair of governors Avis Johns has signed the funding agreement with the department, meaning plans to open the school in September will go ahead.

New Schools Network (NSN) the independent charity which supports groups establishing Free Schools has welcomed the announcement by Barclays of a new range of services to help Free Schools and Academies improve education. Barclays and NSN will be working together to deliver elements of their support, in particular in areas of deprivation and those with a lack of good local school places.

New Schools Network (NSN) has welcomed the announcement that a further 55 new mainstream Free Schools have been approved to open in September 2012. There are a further 6 already due to open next year bringing the total number to 61.
