Responding to Schools Week's investigation into unregistered schools, NSN Director, Unity Howard said:
"It is truly shocking that a lack of high-quality alternative provision has resulted in local authorities knowingly sending our most vulnerable children to an unregistered, unaccountable 'school'."
"AP free schools offer a truly transformative opportunity for children to thrive in a non-mainstream setting, giving them a real second chance. We cannot allow a lack of provision to write off their life chances."
"The Department for Education must take this matter incredibly seriously. The rhetoric and support from the Secretary of State is welcome, but the time for action is now. We urge DfE to launch a dedicated AP free school wave as a matter of urgency, so outstanding AP can be accessed by all communities across the country."
