NSN Deputy Director: We welcome Suella Bravermann’s call for the next Prime Minster to expand the reach of free schools

Wednesday, June 26, 2019
NSN Deputy Director, Unity Howard, said:

"As Suella Braverman’s report makes clear free schools have transformed the life chances of thousands of young people. However, education reform from programmes like free schools and academies have lost momentum over the past two years and we welcome Suella Bravermann’s call for the next Prime Minster to expand the reach of free schools.

"Education is key to ensuring our social and economic success. Free schools offer an educational lifeline, bringing not just great schooling, but a renewed sense of aspiration into communities that have been let down for too long.

"New Schools Network has called for the Conservative Party leadership candidate to sign up to five key education pledges. Our pledges include opening 100 new free schools each year, removing the barriers to opening new schools and re-empowering parents, teachers, and community charities to open a free school. Both the remaining candidates have responded to our pledges and are committed to placing education reform at the heart of the next government. Full details of our education pledges and candidate responses can be found here".
