The Bilingual Primary School, Brighton opened in 2012 and has three forms of entry. In and around school, Spanish and English are used interchangeably, with all teaching assistants being native or fluent speakers of Spanish. The school welcomes those of all abilities in Spanish, whether pupils already speak the language at home or if they are total beginners. Students will receive two one-hour long lessons of Spanish a week, but otherwise follows the National Curriculum, which is taught in English. The school’s bilingual ethos recognises the advantages for children to be able to learn and develop both culturally, linguistically and academically from a very young age.
