Marchbank Free School is a special school in Darlington for those aged 5-11 with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school, which opened in 2013, is part of the Education Village Academy Trust and can cater for up to 45 pupils. The school is located within extensive grounds and the children work alongside adults to grow their own food and look after their hens and ducks. The school takes a 'stage not age' approach to learning and class sizes are small. The school tries to regularly provide enrichment opportunities through activities such as residential visits, the school council and sporting events.
