We have selected some recent examples that address the DfE’s criteria particularly effectively and you may find it useful to look at these to see how previous applicants have outlined their free school proposals. All published applications for waves 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 can be found on the DfE's website. Those from wave 8 are likely to be of most use to applicants as the criteria has changed over time.
Please note that the DfE assess the extent to which each free school application reflects the specific needs of its local area and in particular the pupils who will attend the proposed school, so it is not a good idea to copy information from these applications.
City of London Primary Academy Southwark – a primary school
Swindon C of E School – a secondary school
Citizen School – an all-through school
New College Doncaster – a 16-19 school
Grove House – a special school
The Campus – an AP school
Floreat Southall – a route 1 application from a trust that already had an approved free school of the same type and age range. There is no longer a route 1 application route but trusts completing the shorter application information for section D may find this useful.
