Free School groups need to build a successful team of individuals and partners in order to show that they have the capacity to set up and run a school. Use this page to find volunteers with the skills you are looking for.

NSN Network Volunteers

Information for volunteers

If you are interested in volunteering with a local Free School group, you can use the NSN networking tool to search for groups looking for someone with your skills. You can contact them via the NSN system while still keeping your contact details private.

During the application process volunteers could:

  • Assist in writing the application to government
  • Provide the group with expertise in a specialist area such as finance,  marketing, premises or HR
  • Help to network with local partners and organisations such as charities  and community groups

Once the school is open volunteers could:

  • Become a governor
  • Spend regular time in the school (e.g. reading with children)
  • Be a mentor to a pupil
  • Get involved in clubs or other extra-curricular activities
  • Help to raise money
