NSN Boot Camp

New Schools Network (NSN) is delighted to invite two members of your group to attend an NSN Boot Camp.   These intensive and interactive workshops are free to attend and are open to groups planning to apply to open a Free School from 2013. We think this is our most essential event for those planning to apply.

Each NSN Boot Camp will take place over a full weekend and will involve practical, focussed workshops given by experienced professionals covering all the sections required in the application form. Groups will be able to develop their ideas in order to ensure that they submit a high quality application.

WHO CAN ATTEND

To qualify for a place at one of the NSN Boot Camps you must fill in the application form. NSN will assess your eligibility to attend before confirming your place. 

FORMAT AND AGENDA

The event is being held at the Victoria Park Plaza Hotel, London which is a five minute walk from Victoria Rail Station and Underground. Lunch and refreshments will be available during the day and we are holding an evening reception. Overnight accommodation is not included. Due to restricted space, we are only able to offer a maximum of 2 places per applicant group

The agenda includes:

Day 1- Saturday:  10.00 – 17.15   Day 1 will consist of practical roundtable workshops, in which your 2 group members can work on the key topics that underpin all applications under expert guidance. The topics covered will be:   

  1. Education Vision: Presenting a succinct and compelling vision and ethos
  2. Curriculum Plan: How to write an effective plan for curriculum and organisation of learning
  3. Innovative Curriculum Design : Innovation, creativity and delivering the vision through your curriculum
  4. Meeting All Needs: Planning strategically to meet the needs of pupils with different abilities, particularly SEN. 

 There will be a maximum of 32 people per workshop.  

Post Workshop Reception:  17.15 - 18.30   Attendees are invited to attend in order to share experiences and ideas with other groups.

  Day 2- Sunday:  09.30-16.15   Day 2 will be split in to specialist streams covering key areas in Admissions, Marketing, Staffing and Finance.  There will also be a separate specialist stream for Alternative Provision and Special Free Schools. The streams covered will be:  

  1. Principal Designate
  2. Marketing
  3. Defining and Measuring Success
  4. Finance
  5. Staffing Structure and Phased Growth
  6. Behaviour and Attendance
  7. Admissions
  8. Premises:  Specialist design advice for Special Free Schools and Alternative Provision Free Schools

If you would like to attend one of the NSN Boot Camps, you can apply for a place by clicking on the blue button below.   Places are restricted to a maximum of 2 members per applicant group and both members should be registered at the same time.  There are a limited number of places and we anticipate that these events will be oversubscribed, so please register your interest as soon as possible. Confirmation of your place will be sent within 10 days of your registration.  Once your place has been confirmed we will send you further workshop materials and detailed joining instructions. 

The Boot Camps are funded by NSN and are free to attend, however NSN reserve the right to apply a £130 cancellation fee (cost of each person to attend for 2 days) for any delegates that register but do not attend and fail to inform us 48 hours in advance. Emergencies and family crises will be taken into account. A reminder email will be sent to you 7 days prior to the event.
