In March NSN took university leaders interested in setting up specialist maths schools and free school leaders interested in university partnerships from around the country on a Spotlight visit to King's College London Mathematics School (KCLMS), a 16-19 free school providing high-quality education in the heart of London.
NSN's Spotlight visits offer free schools that are open or approved the chance to visit existing successful free schools. On March 22nd NSN took free school leaders from around the country to Harris Westminster Sixth Form (HWSF), a selective 16-19 free school. Established with the goal of increasing the rate of entry to top universities among students from areas of socio-economic deprivation, HWSF is sponsored by both the Harris Federation and Westminster School. HWSF opened in 2014 and was graded Outstanding in every category in its first Ofsted inspection.
On Tuesday 14th March, NSN took leaders from open and approved free schools to The Rise School for a Spotlight visit, giving attendees an opportunity to hear about The Rise School’s journey to date, including their challenges and successes.
NSN has been travelling up and down the country offering free schools that are open or approved to open the chance to visit existing free schools and learn about how they operate. Our most recent event took place at West London Free School in Hammersmith, who welcomed a number of attendees from across the country to come and take a look around.
On Tuesday 22nd November, Marine Academy Primary in Plymouth, who received an ‘Outstanding’ in every category in their first Ofsted inspection, kindly hosted representatives from other free school groups based in the South West.

On 27th June, St. Martin’s Primary School in Chester, who recently received an ‘Outstanding’ in every category in their first Ofsted, kindly hosted representatives from other free schools from around the country.
In early July NSN organized an event for the principal designates, finance directors and governors of free schools opening this September. Building on a popular event we held last year, ‘Leading your free school’ was an intensive two-day package of support and advice, preparing free school leaders for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
